If you’re a weekend DIYer who’s always looking for a new project, we’ve come up with 8 great ones that not only make aesthetic improvements, but actually add real value to your home. None will break the bank — or your back — either! Ready? All set? Here we go …
Project 1: Change Out Your Kitchen Countertops
Real estate sales studies have consistently shown that a great kitchen is a major selling point in a home, yet big-dollar kitchen renovations rarely yield the best return on your remodeling dollar. What does, though, is a mini-renovation (up to 83% ROI), and changing outdated countertops fits neatly into that category! You can plan on doing demolition on day 1 and installation on day 2.
Project 2: Replace Light Fixtures
Do you still have the overhead light fixtures installed by your builder or your home’s previous owners? If so, you’re not alone. One of the best — and least expensive ways to give your rooms a facelift is by ditching the old fixtures and replacing them with some bold new ones. Just be sure to turn of power and test wires with a voltmeter to make sure they’re “dead” before disconnecting anything!
Project 3: Remodel Your Entryway with Decorative Door Glass
Your entryway is the first thing anyone sees when they visit your home. (It’s even visible from the street, and it’s the focal point of the front of your home. Why not jazz it up and make it extra-special by adding some decorative door glass like “Perspectives” which has the added benefit of adding light while maintaining privacy?
Project 4: Increase Privacy with Blinds Inside Glass
Here at Zabitat, we’re into glass, and we love the option of blinds that are kept pristine because they’re enclosed in glass. That gives you control in terms of privacy, light control, and tempering a too bright sun on a hot summer day.
Project 5: Change Out Cabinet Hardware
This is another idea for a mini-reno for your kitchen or bathroom. You’d be amazed at how different your cabinetry will look with new hardware, and it’s a project that couldn’t be easier to accomplish.
Project 6: Replace Your Faucets and Showerheads
Don’t have the time or money for a major bathroom overhaul? Give it an image-boosting makeover with new faucets and showerheads. For a fairly low outlay of cash, you’ll reap big rewards, and as long as you stick with the same types of fitting, there’s no need to call in a plumber!
Project 7: Add a Retractable Screen Door to your Patio or Deck Slider
Screen doors used to be a “must” on homes, and with good reason. What could be nicer on a warm spring day than letting in a little fresh air without letting every flying insect in the neighborhood in with it? Now you can have the benefits of a screen door without the hassle of it flying back open when a breeze kicks up. How? With a retractable screen door, of course. We’ve got ’em at Zabitat, whether you want one for a hinged door or a slider. Check them out right here.
Project 8: Paint a Room a Chic New Color
Try a one of the new warmer semi-neutrals like camel or rusty orange, or go bold with an off-black (yes, really!) or a rich red, if you’re not afraid of color. A new coat of paint is one of the least expensive ways to update and refresh your rooms. Just remember, the difference between a professional job and an amateur one is all in the prep!
Needless to say, you can make any number of incredible value-enhancing home improvements in just a weekend without having to make a trip to the bank, hat-in-hand, for a big loan. So what are you waiting for?
