We pulled together a list of the top projects you can easily knock off your list this year to enhance your holidays.
Exterior Lighting
The colder months means shorter days. Less sunlight means we’re left navigating in the dark, even in the early evening. Adding some additional exterior lighting will help not only yourself, but also your holiday guests to be able to see paths and walkways. Exterior lighting can be easily added without major overhauls to your landscaping. A lot of lighting fixtures not have batteries in them and store solar energy to be used throughout the night.
Declutter Entryway
The entrance is the focal point for guests when they arrive. Make it easy for them to come and go without having to navigate through obstacles and lot’s of furniture. Declutter the space by removing bulky items and decor that don’t add value to the area. Setup a designated spot for shoes and coats that makes it easy for everyone to access in an organized manner.
Add Decorative Door Glass
Since we’re talking about entryways, another great enhancement you can make to that will greatly enhance the welcoming feeling of your home is by remodeling your door with some decorative glass. By adding door glass, you are allowing natural light to flow between the inside and outside of your home without sacrificing privacy. The enhancement really increases the feeling of welcoming into the home, which is not only beneficial for the holidays, but also year around!
Check Your Air
Since it’s cooler outside, you’ll likely be closing your doors. Now’s a good time to check your air filters and get them swapped out for new ones. It’s also a good time to get your furnace inspected to make sure it’s up and running efficiently. Nothing would be worse than having it go out in the middle of winter when you need it most. Also make sure to reverse your ceiling fans throughout your home as this will keep air circulating correctly for you during the cooler months.
Replace Weather Stripping
Most homeowners have never considered this, but it’s recommended to do so every few years. The weather stripping on your doors and windows is what helps seal up the cracks around your entryways. This helps keep your home energy efficient, but also prevents drafts which can be uncomfortable especially while trying to entertain your holiday guests.
