How to Install Blinds Between Glass: 8 Easy Steps

Replacing standard door glass with enclosed blinds is a fairly simple task if you have the right tools and a little help. Adding door glass blinds is a quick and easy upgrade that will add style to your door and value to your home.

Before you start the simple process of adding the enclosed blinds, you will need just a few tools to help you with the task.

Here’s what you need

Utility knife with a sharp blade
Phillips screwdriver or power drill
Safety glasses

The project can be completed alone, but it is quicker and less frustrating if you enlist some help. Find a family member or friend that is willing to help you with the removal of the old glass and installation of the new to prevent any damage. With a few easy-to-follow instructions, you and your partner will have your new door glass blinds installed in no time.

Eight Easy Steps For Removal and Installation

Step 1.

Start by removing the screw covers from the existing door glass. You can remove them by barely screwing a drywall screw into it and pop it out. You can also use anything else that you prefer as long as it safely works.

Step 2.

After removing the screw covers, then remove the screws and internal frame. If the old adhesive is worn away or weak, the door glass may fall out on its own. Your partner can stand on the outside and hold the door glass in place in case it begins to slip out of its position.

Step 3.

Use the sharp blade of your utility knife to scrape down the paint line of the frame around the door glass. This will help loosen up any remaining adhesive that is still located on the door.

Step 4.

After the adhesive has been loosened, remove the existing door glass from the door. It should easily push out from the inside if the adhesive is loosened up. Be careful not to drop or bust the door glass while removing it.

Step 5.

Once the existing door glass is removed, use the utility knife again to scrape away any remaining adhesive left on the door. You want to create a smooth surface in order for the new glass to easily bond to.

Step 6.

Have your partner guide the outside piece to the new glass into place, while you guide the inside piece to where it fits. Line up the inside frame with the outside for the screws to easily fit.

Step 7.

Use the provided screws to connect the inside piece of the new door glass to the outside piece for installation of the enclosed blinds. In order to not over tighten the screws, be sure to only use the lowest setting on your power drill clutch and then hand tighten the screws to finish.

Step 8.

Insert the new screw covers over each screw, remove the operator lock, and use a good window cleaner to clean the newly installed glass. You then have newly installed door glass blinds!
