Memorial Day is when we celebrate fallen soldiers who perished serving our country while recognizing veterans and those who are still serving. What better way to honor those who are protecting our homes and freedom than by doing some around-the-house projects during this holiday weekend. Most of us have three days at our disposal and while many of us choose to travel, with traffic and the rising cost of gas perhaps this time and money are both better spent at home. So here's our list of the five best projects to perform during our time off:

1. Out Of The Gutter

Late May is the perfect time of year to tackle the task of cleaning gutters since the debris should be dry and easier to remove. While performing this annual ritual, take notice of the wear-and-tear of these exterior guardians as it might be time for an update. Even if they don't need replacement, for those who are still performing this yearly chore, it might be time to look at gutter guards, screens and other devices that will either eliminate or greatly reduce the regular occurrence of this task.

2. Paint More (or less)

Again, this is the optimum time to take on painting projects both indoors and out. If your exterior is looking dreary, it might be time to look at siding instead. Since this is the time of year when we tend to open up the house for some much needed fresh air, it might be time to take a look at replacing these ventilation-assisting devices.
