Letting in natural sunlight is a great way to make your home feel more open and welcoming. The natural light also increases energy efficiency as you don’t need as many lighting fixtures to keep a room well lit during the day. That’s why homeowners are loving the idea of having glass in their doors because it turns an area that is normally dark into a huge source for natural sunlight. There is a downfall to clear door glass, and that is trying to control your homes privacy.

There have been many attempts on trying to get the benefits of natural sunlight through your door without giving the outside world free viewing access into your home. Traditional window treatments can get the job done, but come with a lot of shortcomings in experience.

Curtains are too thick to let light in, get dirty, and get in the way while operating the door.
Shades are bulky, slam against the door, and break easily from the swinging back a forth while opening and closing.
Traditional blinds have the same issues as shades.
Then there is of course the “DIY” privacy attempts by hanging sheets in front of the glass.

None of these options have created elegance with the entrance. Instead, they cause headaches.

That’s why we love what ODL has done with their solution: Enclosed Blinds.

That’s right, blinds that are enclosed inside the door glass. The ODL Enclosed Blinds is a door glass insert that has a set of mini-blinds sandwiched in-between the 2 layers of glass.

As you can see from the illustration, a Enclosed Blind insert has multiple layers. There is the first layer of glass which is on the exterior of your home. This is a tempered safety glass that is available in regular Clear but also Low-E Clear providing even more energy efficiency in your entryway.

The second layer is the set of mini-blinds that are used to control your homes privacy at any point in time. Need more sunlight? Tilt the blinds open or raise them up out of the way. Need more privacy? Shut your blinds in an instant.

The third layer is the piece of glass inside your home. This is the part that sandwiches the blinds inside the glass and prevents anyone from touch, breaking, or getting your blinds dirty. It also holds the blinds in place so they are not swinging around slamming against everything as you open and close your door.

The last piece is the frame. You’ll see around the edge is a special frame we have developed to hold the glass and blinds in place. On that frame is the blind operator that is slid up and down in order for you to control the blinds. This tilts, raises, and lowers the blinds into the perfect place.
